Poland’s Iga Swiatek, 4th in the world, advanced to the WTA 1000 final, beating Romania Simona Halep (26th) 7-6 (8/6), 6-4, Friday.
Swiatek will face the Spaniard Paula Badosa (7th), defender of the champion or the Greek Maria Sakkari (6th).
The highest score in the women’s draw imposed the logic of the ranking, even if her victory did not depend on much, because her opponent had two balls of the first set in the tiebreak, which she failed to convert.
The controversy continued in the second set, the Polish, winner of Roland Garros in 2020, manages to erase a double break to take the service of her opponent for the third time and win with tweezers in 1h50.
