Swiatek qualifies for the final
(Indian Wells) Polish Iga Swiatek, 4and world, qualified for the final of the Indian Wells tournament, beating 7-6 (8/6), 6-4 Romania’s Simona Halep (26and), Friday.
Swiatek will face Spaniard Paula Badosa (7and), defending champion, or the Greek Maria Sakkari (6and).
The highest-ranked player in the women’s draw, she enforced the logic of the rankings, even if her victory did not depend on much, because her opponent had two first set points in the tiebreaker, which she did not know how to convert.
The standoff continued in the second set, the Polish, winner of Roland-Garros in 2020, managing to erase a double break to take the service of her rival for a third time and win with forceps in 1:50.
