World number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) failed to win a trophy in the WTA 1000 series clay tournament held in Madrid (Spain).

In the final of the competition, the Polish tennis player lost to Arina Sobolenko (WTA 2) from the Republic of Belarus in three sets in 2 hours and 27 minutes.

WTA 1000 Madrid. Preparation. End

Iga Sventek (Poland) [1] – Arina Sobolenko [2] – 3:6, 6:3, 4:6

In the first set, Iga lost without giving Arina much chance. Polka never reached its breaking points.

The second match started with a quick break from Sventek. The world’s first racket took a 3:0 lead, but gave up his serve in the 5th game. Sobolenko, who took a break in the fourth attempt, then equalized and got 2 break points in the 7th game. However, Iga saved himself on the field and soon took a break and then entered the game. In conclusion – 6:3.

The third set started in the same way as the second set, only in the opposite direction. Sobolenko immediately took a break and took a 3-0 lead, but Iga immediately returned to the game. Country rep 404 started hitting Ige less on the back line, and the strong and accurate forehands caused Arina to run more and get tired. Iga made the score 3:3 and it looks like Sventek should put pressure on Sobolenko. But this did not happen, the fatigue of the Polish woman and the luck of the Belarusian made itself felt. Iga nearly lost his serve in Game 8 with almost no chance, and then despite a breaking point in Game 9, he couldn’t translate it and allowed Arina to close the match from the match point four. As a result, Sobolenko won the cup in the thousandth place in Madrid.

It was the eighth meeting of girls on an official level. 5:3 in favor of Iga.

Sventek played in the WTA final for the 17th time. This year, he won the world number one titles in Doha (WTA 500) and Stuttgart (WTA 500), and also lost in the decisive match of the competition (WTA 1000) in Dubai. In WTA 1000 tournaments, Sventek reached its seventh final and fought for its sixth title. In total, the Polish tennis player has 13 WTA titles.
