Tsitsipas: His draw at the Rome Masters, a possible fight against Alkarath in the quarterfinals
The Rome Masters draw took place on Monday night, with Stefanos Tsitsipas having a challenging path.
According to the draw on Monday (May 8th), Stefanos Tsitsipas will most likely meet Carlos Alcarath in the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters, with both players avoiding Novak Djokovic until the final.
The world No. 5 has had a bye since Round 1 while he will make his debut at this year’s event in Round 2 with one of Dusan Lajović and Nuno Borges. We remind you that a few weeks ago the Serb won the 250-man tournament in Banja Luka, beating both Novak Djokovic and Andrei Rublev in the final.
In the event of a qualification for the 3rd round, he is likely to meet the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, while in the “16” the Italian Lorenzo Muzzetti, whom he had already met in the semi-finals in Barcelona, will prevail with Tsitsipas and for the qualify for the finals.
As mentioned, in the quarter-finals he might face world No. 2 Carlos Alcarath, who will in turn make his debut (also in the 2nd round), or Albert Ramos Viñolas, who he had an epic upset against at Roland last year Garros or with the Italian Francesco Passaro.
In the 3rd round, the Spaniard’s potential opponent is expected to be the rising Czech Jiri Lehetska, while in the “16” possible opponents are Borna Csotric and Daniel Evans.
The semifinals feature the names of Daniil Medvedev, Andrei Rublev and Alexander Zverev, with Medvedev and Zverev very likely meeting again after the episodic match in Barcelona.
From the top of the table, Novak Djokovic will make his 2nd round debut with one of Luka VAN AS and Thomas Martin Etcheverry, while in the 3rd round he is very likely to face either Stan Wawrinka or Grigor Dimitrov.
In the 4th round, the potential opponents of the defending champion are Alex de Minor and Cameron Nori, while in the quarterfinals we expect the big showdown with Holger Rune, while the … deformed Felix Auxer also plays Aliasim.
In the semifinals, the first candidate for Djokovic is Yannick Sinner, while Casper Rudd, although in a bad mood lately, is always to be expected, especially on sand.
