Sakkari in the 3rd round of the Rome Masters

As expected, Maria Sakkari easily advanced to the third round of the Rome Masters after eliminating Barbora Strykova with 2:0 sets (6:1, 6:3).

Maria Sakkari effortlessly overcame the obstacle of 37-year-old Czech Barbora Strykova and won with her 6-1, 6-3 Securing the qualification for the 3rd round of the Rome Masters.

For the Greek tennis player, this was her 20th win of the season (20-9) but also her 12th in the tournament (12-5), continuing her winning streak and going unbeaten at the Rome Tournament for the fifth consecutive series.

In set 1, Sakkari took advantage of Strykova’s tragic serve, gaining just 3 points without being able to hold it once. The world No. 8 won the first four games (two breaks) to take a 4-0 lead despite their low serve rates.

The Czech only managed to win back one of the two breaks and slipped to 4-1, but then Sakkari secured another break and serve to make it 6-1 and 1-0 after 33 minutes.

The 2nd set started with Strikova holding her first serve of the match, while immediately following she threatened Sakkari with a triple break point (0/40), but the Greek tennis player struggled to hold, resulting in 1: 1 equalization led. 1 .

What the Czech couldn’t do at that point, Sakkari did in the very next game with the first break opportunity and took a 2-1 lead, which she then extended to 3-1 with a loose serve.

Sakkari’s pressure on Strykova’s unstable serve continued, with the Greek tennis player claiming another break and winning her fourth straight game to make it 4-1 and then 5-1 immediately afterwards.

Strikova reduced to 5-2, while then not allowing Sakkari to end the game by recouping one of the Greek tennis player’s two breaks, making it 5-3, but Sakkari’s another break sealed victory to qualify for the next round.

In “32” Sakkari meets Bianca Andreescu and Marketa Vodrusova for a place in the 4th round of the competition.
