In his statements after defeating Borges, Stefanos Tsitsipas referred to the fact that he had to play on two different days to achieve the win and said that every athlete has to be prepared for anything.

It took Stefanos Tsitsipas two days to beat Borges and advance to the next round of the Rome Masters as Saturday’s game was suspended and the Greek tennis player played two more games on Sunday which he easily used to advance to the next round.

In his statements, he emphasized that this is not common, but that every athlete must be prepared for it, and described the two games on Sunday as a very good fight on his part.

“It’s not customary to finish a game that’s not finished, then go to bed and continue the next day.”

“Today the conditions were very different, I don’t think I’ve ever played such a short match, it only lasted a few minutes. Unusual but the quality was there when I needed to perform and the last two games have been a really good fight by me.”

Was yesterday’s holiday spoiled by the rain?

“It didn’t bother me too much, as an athlete you have to be prepared for everything. That happened here a few years ago against Novak. I was prepared, I knew it was raining heavily, it was even raining when we played.”

I knew the chance was slim but I tried to finish it before they stopped us. It didn’t happen, I had to continue today. I relived the game before going to bed to visualize it for the next day.
