Tsitsipas – Sonego 2: 0: Did the job and flew into the round of 16 of the Rome Masters
Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame Lorenzo Sonego’s obstacle, defeated the Italians 2-0 sets (6:3, 7:6) and qualified for the “16” of the Rome Masters.
The match of the round of 32 of the Rome Masters between Stefanos Tsitsipas (no. 5) and Lorenzo Sonego (no. 48) started on Monday (15/5) and ended on Tuesday (16/5) with the qualification of the Greek tennis player in the “16” of the Rome Masters with 2:0 sets (6-3, 7-5).
This was actually Tsitsipas’ third win over Sonego in as many games between them.
We remind you that Monday night’s game was suspended due to rain and the world No. 5 made the first move.
Tsitsipas held the lead as he won the first set and won the games 6-3. The two athletes managed to serve, but Stefanos managed to stand out. He broke off in the sixth game and, defending his serve, was happy about 1-0.
Stefanos impressively wiped out the Italian’s set ball and led the second set to a tie-break. There Stefanos took a 2-0 lead, but three points in a row saw the Italian take a 3-2 lead. Stefanos finally finished the work he started on Monday and won the second set 7-3.
The Greek will play with Lorenzo Muzzetti or Francis Tiafoe at 9 p.m. on Tuesday night at the earliest
