This is not the first time Ostapenko’s behavior has raised questions.

Elena Ostapenko has long been known in the tennis world from two sides. One shows a talented player with a victory at Roland Garros and a high 20th place in the WTA rankings. On the other hand, an emotional and scandalous personality opens up, whose antics are actively discussed in the profile community.

And now Ostapenko again gave a reason to talk about herself in a negative way. And she did it out of the blue!

Dissatisfaction with the judge

In the fourth round of a major tournament in Rome, Elena Ostapenko met with Russian Daria Kasatkina. The first set was left for the Latvian (6:4), and in the second she lost 2:4. And here the essence of Ostapenko came out.

The score was 30:15 in favor of Kasatkina, who completed the attack with a blow to the court. The referee of the match, Maria Chichak, counted the hit of the Russian woman, but Ostapenko was unhappy with this decision. In her opinion, Kasatkina was out of bounds, and points should not be awarded to her.

Elena expressed her indignation to the judge, demanding to call the supervisor to the court. Chichak, in response, went down and showed that the ball hit the court, so you shouldn’t make scandals. She also stated that the supervisor will explain this decision after the match, if necessary. Then the Latvian went to extreme measures.

You will never refere my matches again! Ostapenko shouted to the judge. This episode was broadcast on the game, after which it was published by some media and social media accounts.

Chichak knows

Why make such loud statements, it is not clear. Yes, emotions sometimes run wild, and Ostapenko gives them free rein. But why threaten the referee in a seemingly trifling episode? They counted the controversial ball – clenched her teeth and gave it all in the next draw.

Moreover, Chichak is definitely not an amateur in the world of tennis. The Serbian referee has been working at the most elite tournaments for more than 15 years. And she knows perfectly well where the ball hit and how to regard this or that moment.

rebirth

Although Ostapenko is known for being able to transform after an outburst of emotions. Screaming at someone, she seems to be born again and begins to show a completely different tennis.

This happened in the match with Kasatkina. The Latvian won that ill-fated game. True, she still had to give the second set (4:6), but then she completely dominated the court. This was reflected in the score – 6:0. Now Ostapenko is waiting for a rival in the quarterfinals – she will be the Spaniard Paula Badosa or Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic.
