Holger Rooney defeated Novak Djokovic 2-1 sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) and advanced to the final of the Rome Masters. For the first time there will be neither Djokovic nor Rafael Nadal in the final of the thousandth Roman tournament.

Rome Masters undoubtedly has it all. Breaks, rains, postponements and most importantly, plenty of surprises that continued in Wednesday’s program as Holger Rooney defeated world No. 1 and six-time tournament champion Novak Djokovic 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 after 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The Dane recorded his 26th win of the season (26-9) and, after Paris and Monte Carlo, reached the ATP Masters 1000 semi-finals for the third time in his career, where he won 1000 tournaments 17-4. On the other hand, it’s worth noting that for the first time since 2004(!) we won’t have a pair of Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the final.
