Rune stops Djokovic in semi-final in Rome
There was a sensation in the 1/4 final match between world leader Novak Djokovic and seventh seeded Holger Rune at Masters in Rome.
The 20-year-old Danish tennis player defeated the last champion of the tournament, who won six championships on these courts, in three sets.
Rome. 1/4 final
Novak Djokovic (Serbia) – Holger Rune (Denmark) – 2:6, 6:4, 2:6
For Rune, this was the second victory over the world’s first racket. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz in Paris last year.
In the second set, Holger argued with the referee, who made the wrong decision while in contact with the ball after Djokovic’s shot. In the third set, Djokovic made his arguments to the judge for the delay.
It is interesting that Rune is the third active tennis player with a positive balance (2:1) against Djokovic. Also, Jiri Vesely (2:0) and Nick Kyrgios (2:1).
Holger Rune will face Norway’s Kasper Ruud or Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the semi-finals.
