Nadal plans to retire in 2024
Former world tennis leader rafael nadal At a press conference at his academy in Mallorca, he announced that he would miss the next few months and plan to retire next year.
“I won’t be able to play at Roland Garros. As you know, I’ve been working very hard every day for the past few months, but I haven’t been able to find a solution to the problem that has arisen in Australia. I don’t feel ready to show the tennis standard I need at Roland Garros today.
The last few years have been very good in terms of results – I’ve managed to win a few Grand Slams, a few major tournaments. But I was not enjoying my job.
After the pandemic, the body could not cope with daily tasks, so I could not enjoy training and tournaments. I often had to take a break due to physical problems, I worked very often in pain. That’s why I need to take a break.
I don’t know when I can return to the field. Maybe a month and a half, maybe two, maybe four months. I will follow my feelings and try to do things that will benefit my body and bring me happiness.
My goal and desire is to stop to enjoy the next season, which will probably be my last season on the professional tour. I can’t 100% guarantee that this will work. But that’s the intention.
I want to say goodbye to all the tournaments that are important to me and my career. I want to fight and enjoy this moment. Now this is impossible. But I believe that if I take a break now, I will have such an opportunity next year, ”said Nadal.
He was injured at Roland Garros in 2021 and played only two games until the end of the season, but returned in 2022, leading 47 matches, winning the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
