The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has launched a new indictment against former world No. 1 Simona Halep.

The new case involves a violation in the biological passport of a 31-year-old athlete from Romania. The new accusation supplements the previous one, but is separated into a separate proceeding.

Traces of the banned substance roxadustat in Halep’s body were found in a doping test dated August 29, 2022. The tennis player has been temporarily suspended from competition since October 21.

Halep is a 24-time winner of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournaments, a two-time winner of the Grand Slam tournaments: Roland Garros (2018) and Wimbledon (2019).
