On Friday, May 19, a semi-final match was held in the lower part of the tournament bracket at the dirt tournament of the WTA 1000 series between the Ukrainian tennis player, held in Rome (Italy). Angelina Kalinina (WTA 47) and country representative 404 Veronika Kudermetova (WTA 12).

The match ended in favor of Ukraine 7:5, 5:7, 6:2. Thanks to this victory, Angelina reached the final of the competition at the WTA 1000 level for the first time.

After the meeting ended, Kalinina commented on her success:

“How do I feel? I can’t seem to feel my legs. Overall, I’ve played so much in this tournament, three sets, then three sets again, and three sets again … So I move as much as I can. I’m happy to keep going.

But the tournament is not over yet, yes. Tomorrow another war awaits me. Both tennis players (Rybakina and Ostapenko – ed.) are top level players. Tournaments like this are never easy. First of all, I have to get well. But these are incredible feelings. I’m fighting, I’m on my way and it’s a new experience for me, I’m really happy.

And I would like to add that, considering what Ukraine has gone through, it is very important for me to win every match now… I hope I have shed some light on people, I have given positive feelings for my country. And I hope the Ukrainians have some fun.”

In the thousandth cup match in the capital of Italy, the Ukrainian will play with the winner of the match Elena Rybakina – Alena Ostapenko.
