Tsitsipas angry at his mother: “M@@@meni are you completely?”
Stefanos Tsitsipas lost a crucial game in the first set, panicking and arguing with his mother, who gave him instructions in Russian while the Greek tennis player spoke to her in a rather intense tone.
Stefanos Tsitsipas was defeated by Medvedev at a crucial point in the first game, the Russian leading 6-5. When the Greek tennis player went to his bench, he was angry with his mother, who said some things to him in Russian during the game.
Tsitsipas turned and said to her:
“Don’t speak in Russian. Speak in Greek. Don’t speak in Russian. Mother I serve and you speak in Russian. Better get out of the field and don’t speak in Russian. Have you gone completely soft? I can’t understand what’s going through your mind. He speaks in your tongue. when you have your god?”
And then, a little later, before Tsitsipas entered the field at the start of the second set and his mother hovered over him to say something to him, he turned and said to the referee: “He has to leave the field. I can’t. If I continue, it must be done in my own way.”
His mother did not return to the seat where his father and the Greek tennis player’s staff were seated, but sat a few seats up.
