Medvedev – Tsitsipas 2: 0: Stefanos lost concentration and thus the qualification for the final of the Rome Masters

Stefanos Tsitsipas lost concentration after the intensive dialogue with his mother, lost to Medvedev with 0:2 sets and completed his presence at the Rome Masters.

In a game twice suspended due to rain, Stefanos Tsitsipas lost 2-0 sets to Daniil Medvedev to end his run at the Rome Masters in the semifinals.

The 24-year-old Greek tennis player (No. 5) had to pay for the intense episode with his mother as from that point on he was clearly irritable and losing concentration.

The 27-year-old Russian (No.3) made the best of it and meets Rooney in the Rome Masters final on Sunday afternoon.

The match: Medvedev managed to open the semifinals with a fast break. Stefanos Tsitsipas came into play sluggishly and the Russian used his advantage.

The 24-year-old Greek started to push more and more as time went on, managing to reclaim the break in game eight and level the semi-finals to an even level.


At this point, the game was abandoned due to rain after the Russian protested. After two hours and 40 minutes, the athletes returned to the court, but managed to play only one game, with Tsitsipas winning it, leading 5-4.

The two athletes then stayed in the dressing room for around 1 hour and 40 minutes before returning to the court. Medvedev served and held and in the next game Tsitsipas took a 40-0 lead, with the Russian turning the ball and earning a break.

This was immediately followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas outburst of anger towards his mother, which completely threw him out of rhythm. Medvedev then held his serve and finished the first set 7:5.


Stefanos Tsitsipas’ mother left his box and went to another part of the podium at the request of the Greek tennis player, but Steph was visibly irritated.

This led to Medvedev taking advantage and going into the second set with a break. Tsitsipas was visibly irritated and was looking for a way to get back into the game. In game six, Tsitsipas finally managed to win back the break and then take a 4-3 lead.


The Greek tennis player held his serve again shortly afterwards and took a 5-4 lead. There, however, Tsitsipas repeated the many mistakes he made at the end of the first set, resulting in Medvedev winning the next three games and securing his qualification for the final with a 7-5, 7-5.
