Angelina KALININA: “I fought despite the score, the weather and the opponents”
On the night of May 21, the final duel between the Ukrainian tennis player took place at the clay tournament of the WTA 1000 series, held in Rome (Italy). Angelina Kalinina (WTA 47) and Kazakhstan representative Elena Rybakina (WTA 6).
The match ended 6:4 and 1:0 in favor of Rybakina. The Ukrainian player could not continue the fight after losing the first set. Angelina received a medical time-out and withdrew from the game. The cause is an injury to the left leg.
At the award ceremony, Kalinina commented on the result of the last meeting in the super tournament in Rome:
“Especially today, I feel like I’m at the limit of my physical abilities. Today yes, I started well, but after two or three games, I don’t know, I couldn’t. I tried but it was absolutely impossible.
I am most proud of my fighting spirit during these two weeks. I fought against the score, the situation, the weather, the opponents. Everyone was so tough. Serious tournament bracket.
