(Paris) The Frenchwoman Margaux Rouvroy, 278e world champion and recipient of an invitation to the Roland-Garros qualifying draw, beat 2020 finalist Sofia Kenin (120e) 6-4, 6-3.
At 22, Rouvroy plays for the first time the qualifications of a Grand Slam tournament. She will face Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich (211e).
For her part, Kenin had surprised the tennis world by winning the Australian Open in 2020 and then made it to the final of the French Open, moved that year from spring to fall due to COVID-19.
