Roland Garros: Grammatikopoulou qualified with a win

Valentini Grammatikopoulou won a 2-0 set against Sinia Krauss and advanced to the second qualifying round of Roland Garros.

Valentini Grammatikopoulos’ debut in the Roland Garros 1st qualifying round was a comfortable one as she defeated 21-year-old Austrian and world No. 151 Sinia Kraus with 6-4, 6-1within 72 minutes of racing and goes into the next round.

The 26-year-old Greek tennis player broke her opponent’s serve 6(!) times, won the first set with great difficulty, while she acted stormily in the second part on the Parisian clay court and gave Kraus only one game.

In the 2nd round of the second Grand Slam, Valentini will face either Japanese (former world No. 56) Nao Himbino or South Korean Na-Lae Han.

As for the game, Grammatikopoulou started from the service line in the 1st set and kept her slight advantage until the 3rd game (2:1), while as the game progressed, both sides had 4 consecutive breaks where the difference stands remained as it is until the 9th game (5-4).

At the end of the first round of the game, the number 186 in the world managed to “break” the Austrian’s serve for the third time (so far), completing the set ideally and thus laying the foundation for the direct win (6:4) . .

In the second and final part of the game, Valentini came on exceptionally well and with an impressive streak of 5/5 games won, practically secured qualification for the next stage of the qualifiers (5:0).

Although Kraus reduced with a love game (40-0), it wasn’t enough to prevent the Greek from serving to victory in the next game and continuing to maintain her qualification for the main draw in the French capital (6 – 1) .
