The prosecutor’s office of Paris closed the criminal case of the Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova, who was accused of sports corruption, said the athlete’s lawyer Frederic Belo.

– With Sizikova, who was detained and placed under arrest during the Roland Garros tournament in 2021, all charges were dropped by decision of the prosecutor on April 11, 2023. After two and a half years of investigation, the Paris prosecutor’s office finally announced the closure of the case, considering that the events imputed by Sizikova could not be established, ”RIA Novosti Sport” quotes Belo as saying.

Sizikova was detained in Paris due to suspicions of corruption in early June 2021. Then it was reported that the tennis player was under investigation on charges of “organized fraud” and “active and passive sports corruption.” She was suspected of participating in a match-fixing in the first round of the 2020 French Open. Several tens of thousands of euros were wagered on the game with her participation by betting operators in different countries.

Sizikova, 28, is ranked 50th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings in doubles. The Russian has won two WTA titles in pairs.
