SVITOLINA: “There was no situation where my interlocutors supported the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus”

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina He talked about how other athletes reacted to his rapid return to big sports after the birth of his daughter.

How was your return on tour received?

– I was very warmly welcomed, a lot of people were surprised at my physical form because Sky was only 5.5 months old when I came back to Charleston and played a very good game there. A lot of people were surprised, they came up to me, asked about Skye, most of the questions are about her (laughs). So I was very well received.

– Were there any problems or negatives with your position and other Ukrainian tennis players regarding the ban on Russian and Belarusian players?

– I have never had a case where the interlocutor showed some kind of support for Russia or Belarus. I know that some of my acquaintances are faced with such a position in the world in general, they say that not only athletes, but also Belarusians and Russians should play “sports outside of politics”. These are already outdated comments and they have clear and understandable explanations with no arguments anymore.

I have not had such situations, everyone knows my net position. If they want to tell me something, I am ready to answer.

Ukraine’s support is very good. I see this in my foundation, we have the opportunity to organize some events and raise funds at United24. As soon as we got back, we immediately organized a charity match between professionals and amateurs with the help of a tournament in Charleston. That’s why we do these little activities that can help raise money.
