Ex-first racket of the world, Olympic champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov spoke about the prospects of 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva at the French Open.

– It is too early to assess the prospects. But the very fact that the girl passes the qualifiers and will play with the leading tennis players already indicates that Russian tennis, of course, does not stand still. Our girls have always been talented, achieving great success at a young age. Naturally, we are very happy, we will watch, cheer, worry and watch her matches for sure, ”Gazeta.Ru quotes Kafelnikov.

Ranked 143rd by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Andreeva has become the youngest tennis player since 1995, after the Frenchwoman Amélie Mauresmo, who managed to break into the main draw of Roland Garros.

Roland Garros main draw competitions will be held in Paris from May 28 to June 11.
