Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (WTA 192) commented on the victory over Martina Trevisan (Italy, WTA 24) in the 1/64 final of the French Open 2023:

“First of all, I want to thank everyone who came to support me today. It’s always a special moment when you celebrate your first lap victory here at Roland Garros. I have great memories of my performances in front of great fans in connection with this tournament. I’m really happy with the game I played today. I’m looking forward to the next match.

Trevisan was in the semi-finals last year, but I managed to control the game from start to finish. It was a really great match. I played very well Martina is a tough opponent, I knew I had to show my best. And so it happened. After winning in Strasbourg last week, I am very confident, but I needed to pack up quickly and be ready for today’s challenge. But with such postures you can not get tired, you must have energy, so everything worked out for me.

Were the audience happy to see me after maternity leave? This is a special moment for me because our daughter is half French and half Ukrainian, so we are a French-Ukrainian family. Maybe one day you’ll see him playing tennis here. I think she was having fun. In any case, it’s a special occasion for me to come back and play at such a high level.”

In the next round of the French Major, Svitolina will face Storm Sanders (WTA 204) from Australia.

Last week, Elina won the title at the WTA 250 tournament in Strasbourg.
