Since making his Roland Garros debut in 2005, Novak Djokovic has not been knocked out in the first round. American Kovacevic couldn’t escape his catches and the Serb (No.3) advanced to the 19/19 qualifying round.

Novak Djokovic’s career at Roland Garros went through various ups and downs. But the tall Serb (No. 3) had never gotten past the first round in all the games he’d stepped onto the clay court of the Paris tournament.

His first opponent for the 2023 edition was the 24-year-old American Alexander Kovacevich (No. 114). The fight was uneven and Djokovic went through with an almost uninterrupted 3:0, as he only met strong resistance in the third set (6:3, 6:2, 7:6).

With that win, Nole reached 19 qualifiers for Roland Garros first round – as many as he has played. In the second, the Hungarian only dropped out in 2005 at his first appearance Marton Fucsovich (No. 83) seems unable to do so.
