Roland Garros doubles champion Olga Morozova admitted to RT that Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev delighted her with his successful performance at the Masters in Rome.
Medvedev beat Dane Holger Rune 7:5, 7:5 in the final of the Masters tournament.
– Daniil Medvedev surprised fans and experts a lot by winning the first ATP tournament on clay in his career, and even the Masters series. Does this mean that now we have the right to expect success from him at Roland Garros?
– We must start with the fact that Medvedev did the unbelievable. He really inspired a lot of people, myself included. It was very interesting to watch his final with Holger Rune – first of all, how masterfully he played the game, how he cut off the speed of the progressing Dane. Daniil has an amazing sense of the ball, a very good vision of the court. This suggests that it is no coincidence that he takes second place in the world classification.
As for the French Open, it is, of course, a special competition. In recent years, it has been the Rafael Nadal tournament. Now, in his absence, the road has opened for the rest. In addition, it must be borne in mind that the French land has become a little different. Previously, the surface was much slower, but now the court has a higher bounce and allows you to play faster. Not without reason, after all, Maria Sharapova excelled twice in Paris. And once tennis players with such data as Masha or Dani could not successfully perform on this kind of surface, because they faced difficulties in moving.
Medvedev at the start of Roland Garros will play with qualified Brazilian Thiago Seybot Wild.
