Mirra Andreeva conquers new heights of world tennis.

Roland Garros got off to a pretty good start for the Russians: almost all tennis players made it through the first round. Young Mirra Andreeva performed brightest of all. Unlike many compatriots, she made her way to the main draw through qualification. And in the first round, she easily beat the representative of the United States.

But this is her first Grand Slam tournament!

“I did everything myself”

It is still very difficult to talk about the career of a 16-year-old native of Krasnoyarsk. At the senior level, Mirra has almost no performances, so each new tournament is a new experience.

However, for her age, Andreeva does something incredible. She is already in the spotlight at iconic competitions. So it was, for example, in Madrid at the WTA 1000 tournament, where Mirra became the youngest tennis player ever to reach the 1/8 finals at this level. And her comment about “handsome Andy Murray” generally became a bestseller.

If a month ago in Spain, the Russian woman received a wild card (an invitation to bypass the standard requirements), then in France she had to enter the main draw through qualification. At the decisive stage, she passed the Colombian Osorio in the hardest three-set match.

– In Madrid they gave me a wild card, and I played there as if I had nothing to lose. Therefore, there was such an attitude: what happens, I will do it. I didn’t worry. And then I went through a qualification, I did everything myself, I deserved to be here. I won such a tough match to qualify from the qualifier, – Mirra emphasizes the importance of Roland Garros.

Dream debut

The first match in his career in the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament was just fantastic. The young Russian allowed her opponent to take only three games, winning 6:2, 6:1. And this despite the fact that the American Alison Riske is twice as old, and therefore more experienced.

Andreeva again, as before in Madrid, proved to be a cold-blooded athlete who confidently leads the match. And the young tennis player does not climb into her pocket for a word.

– It is difficult to play when you see that the opponent is positive all the time. Today was not very easy, but I analyzed her game with the coaches. She plays very flat, she is a little clumsy in technique. Doesn’t move very well. Let’s just say that she moves dumb, ”Andreeva opened up in an interview with the Bolshe!” channel.

The debutante spent only 56 minutes on the passage to the second round. Andreeva’s result in terms of the number of games lost in her debut match was the second in the history of Roland Garros among girls under 17 years old. In 2008, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won her first match 6:1, 6:1 against Maria Emilia Salerni.

The opponent of the Russian woman in the next match will be the Frenchwoman Diane Parry, who very easily outplayed the strong Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina (6:2, 6:3). It is noteworthy that the 20-year-old Parry also received a wild card, like Andreeva in Madrid. And so far, he’s been taking advantage of the opportunity.

It will not be easy for a young Russian woman to go further. But she has already proven that she is not afraid of anyone.
