SVITOLINA: “To be honest, I don’t know what Gael is doing here. But thanks to him”
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (WTA 192) commented on the victory over Storm Hunter (Australia, WTA 204) in round 2 of the French Open 2023:
“Having a chance to play for Roland Garros is incredible, especially for me. I couldn’t have imagined I’d be here, get fit, show good tennis against great players. This is a very special moment for me. Thanks for your support, it’s really inspired me.
– Elina, Gael is here now, supporting you. Did you watch yesterday’s game? It was an incredible game in Shatria.
– Yes I watched it but not in live mode. I was shouting in my room, so if you heard the screams, I was the one supporting Gael.
It was an incredible match! To be honest, I don’t know what he’s doing here right now, I thought he should rest. But I especially thank him for coming and supporting me in such a difficult struggle. I’m already looking forward to his second game and of course I wish him the best.
