Ukrainian tennis player Lesya Tsurenko (WTA 66) expressed his dissatisfaction with the behavior of the WTA Tour management as follows:

“They hide behind this noise because they do nothing. Only we are not satisfied. I’m very surprised why so many people get the feeling that we’re outraged from scratch. There are many reasons for this. We feel injustice, we should do something about it because it is unpleasant as a human being.

We hate to hear all these negative things about us. When the war started, I couldn’t understand what I was doing in the courts. House is war, but life goes on.

Then I realized that this is normal. And he himself went through this transformation. I realized that I could do something to help Ukraine. That’s why I stayed in Tours.

Everything that happened to Martha was a shock to me. I wasn’t expecting a reaction from the audience. And it’s simply a result of this noise that encompasses inertia. Absolutely nothing has been done for me as a Ukrainian tennis player.”

Marta Kostyuk was booed by the crowd for not shaking hands with Arina Sobolenko during the first round of Roland Garros 2023.
