The 1995 Davis Cup finalist, Soviet and Russian tennis player Andrei Chesnokov believes that Roland Garros has “poored” after Daniil Medvedev’s departure from the tournament in the first round.
Medvedev lost to the Brazilian Seibut Tyagu. The meeting lasted 4 hours and 15 minutes and ended with a score of 7:6 (7:5), 6:7 (6:8), 2:6, 6:3, 6:4 in favor of the 172nd racket of the world, who made it to Roland Garros main draw through qualification.
— I have no comments for this match. It’s just a joke. This Brazilian is just a one-match player: losing to the 200th, 300th, 800th players in the world this year. How can you do three doubles in a game?! Medvedev just pulled the second set out of his ass. Wild just gave Medvedev a gift at set point in the second set. He had to make the score 2-0 in sets.
Medvedev stood very far from the back line, and the Brazilian stood in the court. In addition, Medvedev played short, always giving the opportunity to go on the attack. For me it was disgusting. No initiative.
But this is a huge loss for Roland Garros – the second player in the world is eliminated in the first round. How much could you lose your serve?! Is it normal to lose your serve to the 172nd player in the world 12 times?! What kind of comments can there be? In this match, Medvedev made three times more mistakes than in the entire tournament in Rome.
It should not be. He showed such phenomenal tennis in Rome – and such a rubbish at Roland Garros … He was just shaking the whole match. Some people crave sensation. But then Medvedev lost in the first round – the tournament simply became poorer. Further, this Brazilian will play not on the center court, but on the “ass court”, where not a single person will come. I think Medvedev himself understands everything,” Chesnokov told the “Championship”.
Earlier in May, the second racket of the world, Medvedev, for the first time in his career, became the winner of the clay Masters in Rome.
