Tennis
Roland Garros is a complete mess. Athletes literally play in the swamp!
They just laugh at the organizers.
An ideal organization with a minimum of rough edges is what distinguishes top tournaments from just good ones. Tennis “Roland Garros”, of course, is considered an elite competition, where everything must be at the highest level. But the organizers apparently forgot about it.
The French courts are a complete mess!
“In the forest by the lake”
The main problems are related to the preparation of some courts. The Parisians overdid it and poured too much water on them. Because of this, the playground looks more like a swamp. Of course, there is no question of any fast game: the ball gets stuck in the wet clay.
The problem was first raised by Karen Khachanov. The Russian in the first round tried to cope not only with his rival from France, Constant Lestienne, but also with the court. The wet surface significantly hampered the game of Karen, who was indignant and ironic about this.
— Court this year is very good. But we need more water, more! It’s like we are in a forest on a lake, ”Khachanov said during the match, his words are quoted by the Championship.
To be fair, Karen won that game: trailing 0-2 in sets, he took three sets in a row and sent Lestienne home. But the claims have not gone away.
– The courts are very viscous, slow. At some point, my punches didn’t seem to work. You hit harder – it flies away, you hit at an average speed – it’s very convenient for the opponent, ”Khachanov said in an interview with the More!” YouTube channel.
In the same place, the Russian noted that in the third set he loosened the tension of the racket, due to which he managed to return to the game.
The irony is gone
It might seem that the organizers of Roland Garros would heed the words of Khachanov. After all, the 11th racket of the world! And they listened – however, only for one match. In the second round, Karen beat Radu Albot from Moldova on dry ground – remarkably, dry (3-0 in sets).
In the third round, everything returned to normal. Khachanov was opposed by Australian Tanasi Kokkinakis and a generously watered court. At that moment, even irony left the Russian – only claims remained. I must say, quite reasonable.
The court is already wet, it does not need to be watered. The balls are “dead”, and this is not good, – quotes the words of Khachanov “Championship”.
The victory, however, again remained with the Russian, who was stronger in four sets. Now he is waiting for the Italian Lorenzo Sonego, who previously knocked out Andrei Rublev. Maybe at least in this game the coating will not squish and interfere with the process?
Mud game
And it’s not just Khachanov who is indignant at the fact that the organizers are pouring too much water on the courts. It is clear that humidification is necessary, otherwise there will be clouds of dust over the stadium. But this time the French obviously overdid it.
Pay attention to the problem and Laszlo Djere, who lost to Andrei Rublev in the first round. The Serbian compared the courts of Roland Garros with mud.
– Every court is different. Khachanov also complained. The Lenglen court is very wet, as if you are playing on the mud, the Sportklub.rs portal quotes Györe.
Tanasi Kokkinakis, who lost to Khachanov, was also dissatisfied with the coverage.
“These are the slowest conditions possible. You are watering the court, and it is no longer possible to slide,” the Australian “Championship” quotes the Australian.
But the organizers for some reason do not want to respond to these claims. Maybe they took Khachanov’s irony seriously and are going to make real lakes instead of courts?

Andreeva said that she never thought about changing her citizenship
The first racket of Russia, Mirra Andreeva, said that she had never thought about changing her citizenship and her neutral status at international tournaments does not put any pressure on her.
On Wednesday, 19-year-old Andreeva beat Greek Maria Sakkari in the second round of the Australian Open with a score of 6:0, 6:4.
– I didn’t even think about it. I heard that Dasha Kasatkina changed her citizenship, and many more players changed their citizenship. But at the moment I intend to play in my previous status. I didn’t receive any offers or anything like that.
— Doesn’t it create pressure when you play without a flag?
“The lack of a flag doesn’t put pressure on me, I just do my job on the court, focus on how to become even better, how to improve. So for me this does not create any pressure,” the Australian Open press service quotes Andreeva as saying.
In the third round of the Australian Open, the Russian will play with the 77th racket of the world, Elena Gabriela Ruze from Romania.

– As a follow-up to the previous question, I respect your wish not to comment on politics, but do you consider Oleynikova’s comments yesterday, in which she personally mentioned you, as unfair? Do you want politics to stay out of tennis?
– Look, I’m here for tennis. This is a tennis event and I’ve said enough in the past and I don’t want to talk politics here.

SCHNEIDER: Oleynikova’s accusations? I don’t know him and I don’t think he knows me either
Russian tennis player and 23rd seed at Australian Open 2026 Diana Schneider He responded to the accusations at the press conference Alexandra Oleynikova Why St. Petersburg to support Putin? He explains that he went to St. Petersburg:
– Yesterday, Ukrainian tennis player Alexandra Oleynikova condemned Russian players who participated in exhibition matches sponsored by Gazprom, a major Russian oil company with ties to the war in Ukraine. What is your answer to this? Do you plan to participate in other tournaments with their sponsors?
– You know, we are on Tour all year and I rarely see my family, so I go to St. My only motivation for playing in St. Petersburg is just to visit my family, to show great tennis to my fans who follow us, cheer for us and support us all year round, and if I get such an opportunity I will take it.
– He also talked about your interview in which you talked about your desire to meet Putin and seemed to be seizing the opportunity. You [также] He received an award together with Mirra [Андреевой]. I also want to give you the opportunity to answer this.
– Yeah, I honestly have no idea what he said. I don’t know him at all. I don’t think he knows me either. But Mirra and I had a great year together. And I think just winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games is an incredible achievement. This is everything. I don’t know, I have nothing to comment.
– What do you think about the player making such loud statements in the context of the tournament?
“I didn’t see how you explained it” And frankly I don’t know what you mean. Personally, I’m just here to play tennis, do my job, play great tennis, enjoy the crowd, enjoy the atmosphere, the first Grand Slam of the year. That’s why I’m here; Win as many matches as possible and play great tennis.
Ukraine’s first player, Elina Svitolina, will face Schneider in the 3rd round of the Australian Open.
