Ukrainian tennis player Lesya Tsurenko (WTA 66) held a press conference after defeating Bianca Andrescu (WTA 42) in the round of 16 at the 2023 French Open.

About his relationship with Elina Svitolina, Lesya said:

– Two Ukrainians in the 1/8 final: you and Elina. This should be a great source of pride for both you and your country. How much inspiration do you take from each other? I mean, Elina really had to fight for those three-set wins, but do you get anything from that?

– No doubt. His return is inspiring. And when I saw the lottery in Rome, I was very unhappy. I don’t want to play against Elina because I wish her the best and when I take the field against her I’m just ready to win…

It wasn’t the best moment. Of course for Ukrainian tennis in general it was great to see two Ukrainians in the midfield.

How she was playing before pregnancy… It was incredible. It had many great results.

And most importantly, he’s a great fighter, so when I watch his matches, I try to take some of that energy and learn something.

And now it shows once again that his return is fast enough. I don’t know. It’s flying in the rankings.

And of course we keep in touch. We support each other. It is absolutely wonderful to have the great champion of Ukrainian tennis history like him,” said Lesya.
