In a quick interview with Matsu Wilander, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on the victory over Daria Kasatkina in the fourth round of Roland Garros 2023:

– Thank you very much for your support. Now that I understand what Gael (Monfils, – approx) has been through all these years, I am very grateful to all the French for their support.

– You reached the quarterfinals in your first Grand Slam tournament since the birth of a child. Can you believe this?

– I dreamed when I gave birth in October last year. It’s unbelievable that I can compete here and make it to the quarterfinals. It’s a special feeling. I hope I will continue, I am very motivated for the next matches.

– Playing against Kasatkina is always difficult, her style of play is like no other. How was it for you?

– Daria has a unique style of play. I tried to change my game, I worked on tactics on the training ground yesterday and it worked. The second set was very frustrating for both of us and that’s okay, it’s a Grand Slam tournament. To be honest, I’m very happy that I was able to finish the game in two sets.

“Perhaps now is the time to tell Gael to go to another room with the baby so you can get a good night’s sleep?”

– We are having a great time off the court, this is the first tournament for Sky (Elina’s daughter, – approx.). We enjoy the time we spend together as a family.
