Swiatek defeated Gauff in a replay of last year’s Roland Garros final.
On June 7, the 1/4 final match of the French Open Tennis Champion took place, where last year’s finalists Iga Sviontek (WTA No. 1) and Corey Gauff (WTA No. 6) faced off.
Polka went strong again, beating the American for the seventh time in a row.
Roland Garros. 1/4 final
Iga Swiatek (Poland) – Corey Gauff (USA) – 6:4, 6:2
Note that Iga reached the semi-finals for the third time in the clay major. The previous two expeditions also ended with the championship. To maintain its status as the world’s first racket, the polka must qualify for the final, as well as wait for Arina Sobolenko to lose to Karolina Muchova in the semi-finals or win the tournament.
In the next round, Swiatek will face Beatrice Haddad Maia (#14 WTA).
