Former world number three Nadezhda Petrova singled out Mirra Andreeva and Elina Avanesyan from the Russian tennis players who played at Roland Garros this year.

16-year-old Andreeva lost to the sixth racket of the world American Corey Gauff in the third round match of the French Open – 7:6 (7:5), 1:6, 1:6. Avanesyan, who made it to the main draw as a lucky loser, lost to world No. 43 Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the fourth round.

– In the women’s tournament this year there were a lot of Russians in the main draw, which is very nice.

Firstly, the opening of this tournament is Mirra Andreeva, who made her way through the qualifications and reached the third round, where she lost to Corey Gauff, but still took a set from her. And Gauff is a tennis player from the top ten of the world ranking.

Secondly, it was very nice to see Elina Avanesyan in the fourth round. She won a confident victory in the first round over Swiss Belinda Bencic.

I think Avanesyan will enter the top 100 best tennis players in the world. This is very good for her: she will start getting into major tournaments without qualification – immediately into the main draw, Petrova told Gazeta.Ru.
