Former junior world No. 2 Anastasia Pivovarova believes that Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov was not in his best shape at Roland Garros because every match he played was fought.

Khachanov on Tuesday lost to Serb Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros with a score of 6:4, 6:7 (0:7), 2:6, 4:6.

– Probably, Khachanov is not in his best form, because from the first laps he had difficult, long matches. First, he defeated the Frenchman in five sets – not the best start to the tournament. In the third round, he beat the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, who is not a super strong player on clay, in four sets, and the score was 7:6 in the fourth set.

Every Karen match was a wrestling match. Yes, in the fourth round he punished Rublev’s offender – Lorenzo Sonego, who had previously knocked out our Andrei, but in the end did not approach the match against Djokovic in the quarterfinals in the best way.

In the match with Djokovic, Karen did everything he could. Fought like a lion. But, unfortunately, this was not enough. Perhaps if he approached the game more freshly, he would have had the strength to change the outcome of the fight with Djokovic,” Pivovarova told Gazeta.Ru.

Khachanov last year reached the semi-finals of the US Open, in January, the Russian stopped one step away from the final of the Australian Open.
