Novak Djokovic broke Carlos Alcarat’s serve (legally) as the Spanish tennis player took a medical time-out with no set break.

A rare ‘stage’ happened in Carlos Alcarat’s match against Novak Djokovic in the first semi-final of Roland Garros, when ‘Nole’ tirelessly and even with his approval broke the Spaniard’s serve.

In the second game of the third set in particular, Alkarath felt some discomfort in his right calf and Djokovic ran to his side to see how he was doing. The Spaniard then asked the referee for a medical time-out without being entitled to do so.

Then the referee asked him if he wanted to take a medical time-out with the ‘penalty’ of losing the game and the Spaniard accepted. The public disapproved of this decision, but it was made legitimately. For a player to be granted a medical time-out, it must be after play has been stopped. A tennis match is suspended after the completion of the first game and then after every two games (3rd, 5th, etc.).
