Chesnokov praised Korneeva for winning the junior Roland Garros
The 1995 Davis Cup finalist Andrey Chesnokov admitted that he expected Russian Alina Korneeva to reach the final at the Roland Garros junior tournament.
On Saturday, Korneeva won the final of the French Open among juniors over the representative of Peru, Lusiana Pérez-Alarcón, with a score of 7:6 (7:4), 6:3.
– Smart girl! I watched all Alina’s matches. It was evident that in the final she was better in everything. Perez-Alarcon caught on, but, it seems to me, the most difficult match for Korneeva was the first. I looked and did not understand how she could win. The opponent played very well.
After the first round, I said that I see Alina in the semi-finals, if not in the final of Roland Garros. And so it happened, – said Chesnokov “Championship”.
Korneeva is ranked 331st in the WTA rankings. On account of the 15-year-old Russian woman, two titles in ITF tournaments, she also won the junior Australian Open.
