Russian tennis player Yaroslav Demin, who became the champion of the junior Roland Garros in doubles on June 10, spoke about training with 22-time Grand Slam winner Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
“Of course, it still shakes me a little. But now it’s a little quieter. I remember the first time I was asked to train with him, the coach came up and said, “Okay. go. You have practice with boss ”(” The boss is waiting for you in training. – Approx.). I’m like, “Yo-mine.” After all, I trained on clay then, and he was on hard, there was no one else. So I went to hard and played with him.
Did you give any advice? Yes, he told me to come closer to the ball with my right feet and not stop ahead of time. I’ve definitely trained with him 7-8 times already. He has different tasks: he hits the ball hard, holds the ball, runs. It’s something incredible when you stand on the same court with him, communicate. Then he sparred. I won’t tell him: “I don’t want this task, give me mine.” They’ll be kicked out right away. Moreover, he is my idol.
We have a group of players: Abedalla Schelbaich from Jordan, Daniel Rincón from Spain, Hong Yi Cody Won from Hong Kong and Daniel Vallejo from Paraguay. All top players. And I. Such a five. We are trained by four coaches. A player has a coach assigned to him if he is already in the top 250 ATP. Plus, I have my own fitness trainer, everyone has a different physio. About three people work with me, sometimes tennis coaches change.
At Nadal’s academy, we work more on strength to pump me up. Focus on OFP. With this, as with recovery, it’s better there. They look at your style, don’t really change anything. He is an attacker for me: I like to run to the net, play from the summer, I play actively, I serve quite strongly. I have everything: I can play well on the right, the best shot on the left. I have everything to succeed. The most important thing is to add physically, – Demin said to the “Championship”.
Nadal opened his tennis academy in Mallorca in 2016.
