(‘s-Hertogenbosch) Canadian Bianca Andreescu got off to a good start at the lawn tennis tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, over Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez on Tuesday.

Sixth seed in the tournament and 37e in the WTA rankings, Andreescu finished the match with a slight deficit in terms of aces and double faults – one against three.

She still posted a 75% efficiency rate in first serves and won 60% of the points after placing her first serve.

She was particularly effective in the second set, where she scored her only ace of the match, did not commit any double faults and had an 84% success rate on the first serve.

Andreescu, who will celebrate his 23e birthday on Thursday, still gave up 10 break points, including seven in the first set, to her 21-year-old rival, 217e in the world. Andreescu only flinched twice, once in each set.

Andreescu also converted four of his five break chances, including two in Sonmez’s first two games on his serve to start the duel.

The Ontarian added a crucial break in the ninth game of the second set to give herself a 5-4 lead, before ending the duel in the next game on her second match point.

In the next round, Andreescu will face Slovak Viktoria Hruncakova.
