(Nottingham) Canada’s Rebecca Marino was eliminated in the first round of the Nottingham Tennis Tournament on Tuesday, losing 6-4, 6-2 to Britain’s Harriet Dart.
This match, played on grass, lasted only 74 minutes
Marino, who entered the tournament at 89e rank in the WTA rankings, conceded to his opponent the first three games of each of the first two sets.
In every set, Marino lost serve in the first and third games. Marino recovered from a break in the fourth game of the first set, a feat she repeated at the same stage of the second set.
Every Time, Dart, 143e in the world, resisted Marino’s efforts to bring the match back to even service.
Dart earned the last eight points of the match, including the first four on Marino’s serve in the seventh game of the second set.
Marino completed the match with three aces, all in the first set, and three double faults, all in the second set.
The 32-year-old Canadian managed just 52% of her first serves and won only 57% of the points after placing her first ball in play.
Marino faced nine break points and saved just four.
