Paula Badosa easily advances to the 4th round
(Miami) Paula Badosa of Spain easily earned her ticket to the fourth round of the Miami Tennis Open with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win Sunday afternoon over Yulia Putintseva.
It was Badosa’s career-best performance at the Miami Open.
In the next round, Badosa will face Linda Fruhvirtova, a 16-year-old Czech, who took advantage of Victoria Azarenka’s retirement midway through the second run to advance to the next round.
Fruhvirtova led 6-2, 3-0 when Azarenka, 12and seeded and three-time champion in Miami, meant she could no longer continue the match.
Jessica Pegula and Veronika Kudermetova also got their tickets to the fourth round.
On the men’s side, Nick Kyrgios, Casper Ruud and Cameron Norrie advanced to the next round.
