Federer: When Sampras won 14 titles, we thought it would last forever
Former world ranking leader Roger Federer He commented on Novak Djokovic’s victory at Roland Garros, as well as the Serbian 23rd Grand Slam title.
“I think what Novak is doing is incredible. Honestly, he’s great for tennis and sports. It’s great that he continues to write and add history to tennis as he did with Serena Williams, Rafa, then me and now Novak. He’s not just a fan of tennis, It’s a great time when you can also be an actor.
I remember when I started the tour and Pete Sampras got 14 titles, we said, ‘OK, this record will stay forever’. Then I got to 15, I finally got to 17, and then we got each other to 20 – I don’t remember who came first,” Federer said.
Note that the first 20 titles were won by Roger Federer. He was the best at the Australian Open in 2018.
