Romanian tennis player suspended for match fixing and fined
The International Agency for Tennis Integrity (ITIA) announced yesterday, June 16, that the 34-year-old tennis player from Romania Petru-Alexander Luncan He was suspended from the sport for five years after numerous violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).
The case was heard by Independent Corruption Hearing Commissioner (AHO) Raj Parker, who upheld five of seven charges filed by ITIA in 2017 and 2021 for match-fixing, as well as an additional charge in 2022 for not fully cooperating with the ITIA investigation. .
Parker found that Lucanu, who reached a career-high 304 in the ATP singles standings in 2009, violated the TACP, rigged the outcome or any other aspect of several matches and contributed directly or indirectly to tennis betting.
Parker also withdrew his consent for the analysis of the mobile phone at the request of the ITIA investigator, finding that the player had not fully cooperated with the ITIA investigation.
Denying all allegations, Luncan will be banned from playing, coaching or participating in any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by tennis governing bodies until June 8, 2028. The actor was also fined $40,000.
