(London) Canadian Milos Raonic withdrew from the Queen’s Club Championships on Tuesday with a shoulder injury.

Raonic, who recently made a return to the ATP Tour after a nearly two-year absence, made the decision shortly before he was scheduled to play his first-round match against Australia’s Jordan Thompson.

Australian Alexei Popyrin replaced him in the main draw.

The ATP Tour, via an email from Tennis Canada, confirmed Raonic’s withdrawal was related to a shoulder injury. No other details were provided.

Raonic, who once held No. 3 in the world, has been plagued by numerous injuries during his career. In particular, he needed time to heal injuries to a heel and a toe.

The 32-year-old Ontarian won his opener at the Libema Open in the Netherlands last week before losing to Thompson in the second round.

It is not known if his participation in Wimbledon next month is in jeopardy. He must have access to the main draw thanks to his protected classification.
