Quarterfinalists in Birmingham: no Ukrainian, no Venus, Czech derby

On 21 and 22 June, the 1/8 finals of the turf tournament of the WTA 250 series were held in Birmingham (England).

Unfortunately, none of the Ukrainians made it to the quarterfinals of the competition. Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk were eliminated in the first round, and Ukraine’s first racket, Angelina Kalinina, lost to Harriet Dart in the 1/8 final.

Legendary 43-year-old American Venus Wilms lost in three sets to second placed Alena Ostapenko of the tournament.

Seeded Barbora Kreychikova will face compatriot and criminal Svitolina Linda Frugvirtova in the quarterfinals.
