Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov addressed the fans on the social network, explaining his decision to withdraw from the Wimbledon tournament.

The last time Khachanov entered the court was in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros, where he lost to the future winner of the tournament, Serb Novak Djokovic.

“It’s not easy for me to report this, that I have to refuse to participate in the Wimbledon tournament. I suffered an unfortunate injury at the French Open and now I will not play at Wimbledon for the second year in a row. This decision was not easy, I hoped to the last that I would be ready, but my medical staff convinced me that this was impossible.

Now I will focus on getting well and returning to tournaments in August. My family is next to me, now I can be present at the birth of my second son, whom we are waiting for.

I remain committed and will use this setback as motivation to come back and hopefully continue to achieve what I want. Thank you for your understanding and constant support, it means a lot to me,” Khachanov wrote on the social network.

Now in the application list in the men’s draw of Wimbledon are the Russians Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Aslan Karatsev, Alexander Shevchenko and Roman Safiullin.

Wimbledon 2023 will take place from 3 to 16 July.
