(Halle) Jannik Sinner’s preparations for Wimbledon were disrupted on Friday when the Italian retired against Alexander Bublik with a groin injury at the Halle tournament.
Ranked ninth in the world, Sinner injured himself while slipping trying to reach one of Bublik’s many drop shots.
Sinner took a medical timeout after the first run. He canceled with Bublik in control 7-5, 2-0.
Sinner was in the quarter-finals for the ninth time this season. He also reached that same point at Wimbledon last year.
Bublik will have Alexander Zverev or Nicolas Jarry as his next rival.
Later on Friday, favorite Daniil Medvedev will face Roberto Bautista Agut, while Andrey Rublev will face Tallon Griekspoor.
