(Berlin) Croatian Donna Vekic, 23e world, qualified for the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin on Saturday, dominating the Greek Maria Sakkari (8e) in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (10/8).
Vekic, 26, will try to win the fifth tournament of his career on Sunday, the second this season after the one in Monterrey, Mexico, in early March. She will face the Czech Petra Kvitova in the final.
On Saturday, she won a hard-fought semi-final which saw the Croatian and Greek repeatedly lose serve. Donna Vekic finally won the tiebreak of the second set on her fourth match point, just hours after playing her quarter-final, which could not be played the day before due to rain.

Petra Kvitova
After beating Caroline Garcia in the quarter-finals earlier today, Petra Kvitova got rid of Alexandrova, 22e world, in 1:21. Thanks to a good serve, the 33-year-old Czech made the match easy, her opponent not getting any break points throughout the game, and winning in straight sets. 6-3, 6-4.
By taking the serve of her Russian opponent early in each of the two sets, Kvitova ensured her qualification for the final of the German tournament.
Very comfortable on grass, the double winner of Wimbledon (2011 and 2014) will play her second final of the year after the WTA 1000 in Miami, on hard, in March. She won against the Kazakh Elena Rybakina, thus winning her thirtieth WTA title. She had, by the way, beaten Vekic at 3e round.
