Tennis player Polina Kudermetova will miss the Wimbledon tournament for political reasons, she was denied a British visa, the father of the athlete Eduard Kudermetov said on Match TV.

The fact that Polina Kudermetova will miss Wimbledon became known on Monday, the official reason for withdrawing from the tournament was “schedule change”. Pavel Kotov (document problems), Oksana Selekhmetyeva, Marina Malnikova and Karen Khachanov (injury) also withdrew from the tournament.

– This is not a sport, but a continuous policy. I don’t know what to say. At first it was like this: the organizers of Wimbledon wrote a letter that they could not give Polina a visa, which they regret. And then in the article they write that her plans have changed. She still has no visa. They also did not give Kotov from the ATP. The authorities do not explain why they do not give a visa to Polina, although the passport is in the embassy, ​​”Kudermetov said on Match TV.

The tennis player herself on the air of Match TV said that she had recovered from her emotions after she was deprived of the chance to play at the Grand Slam tournament.

– At first it was unpleasant, but I was preparing. But now everything is fine, I have returned to normal and I am preparing for other tournaments. Everything that is done, everything is for the better, – said Kudermetova.

Earlier, the organizers of the tournament called the conditions for the admission of Russian tennis players to the competition in a neutral status, noting that they must sign a special declaration.

Wimbledon will take place from 3 to 16 July.
