Elina SVITOLINA: “I really miss Ukraine, I want to return home”
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina plans to return to Ukraine while she is taking a break from tournaments. The athlete wants to visit his hometown of Odessa.
“Of course it is not safe because the country is at war. I must plan my security measures very well and always be careful. But psychologically I feel safer in Ukraine than anywhere else in the world.”
“I want to return to my home in the near future. I don’t know exactly when, maybe a few months later, maybe half a year. Obviously, the tennis season is full of tournaments, but I’m definitely planning to go to Ukraine as soon as I get the chance. I want to see my grandmother in Odessa, and my father was there for a few weeks. And just to see my friends, to come home.”
“I really miss my country and I am particularly saddened by what is happening right now, this massive destruction, which means a lot to me in so many cities,” said Svitolina.
