Russian Daria Kasatkina at Wimbledon can go far in the tournament grid if she plays every match with maximum dedication, Vice-President of the Russian Tennis Federation Alexei Selivanenko told Sport Day after Day.
On Saturday, Kasatkina lost to American Madison Keys in the final of the tournament in Eastbourne (Great Britain).
– Didn’t you get the feeling that Kasatkina lacked quite a bit to turn the tide of the meeting? If she took the second set, she would have a psychological advantage over the Keys.
– Dasha had a chance to move the match to the decisive set. The second set was even. Keys started the meeting very well and made almost no mistakes. In the second set, Kasatkina was able to return to the game and level the playing field. Dasha had set points, Keys had match points. The American was able to take the decisive draws, which means that in the aggregate of all the components in this match she was stronger.
– Kasatkina reached the second final in 2023. Daria hasn’t won a title since last summer. In what form is she coming to Wimbledon?
– It is not the form that matters, but the mood. Reaching the final of such a tournament is a good result. Kasatkina immediately returned to the top 10 of the world ranking. It all depends on her mood for each next game. Daria can beat any opponent. Just like all other players. At Wimbledon, she can go far in the tournament bracket if she plays every match with maximum dedication.
– Already in the third round of Wimbledon, Kasatkina can meet with Victoria Azarenka.
– Victoria is an experienced tennis player who has won Grand Slam tournaments and was at the top of the rankings. But this does not mean anything, everything is decided on the court. The winner is the one who on the day of the match is stronger than the opponent in many indicators that affect the result.
Kasatkina will take part in Wimbledon, which starts on July 3. In the opening round, the first racket of Russia will face Caroline Dolheid from the USA.
